Jenny Lopez's party was the highlight of the year for the entire Lopez family, and being the youngest of eighteen cousins, she was the most spoiled. Her parents had gone above and beyond, reserving the beloved local gem, La Flor, a bar and occasional restaurant, just for the special occasion.

As Daisy and her parents and grandma walked in, she marveled as she always did at the beautiful space. Every wall was adorned with exquisite paintings, and now the tables and chairs were transformed by her family's extravagant tablecloths. Overhead, whimsical fiesta lights twinkled like stars, casting a warm glow that mirrored the smiles on the faces of the delighted guests. A mariachi band filled the space with joyous music, their vibrant harmonies intermingling with the rhythmic clack of dominoes on another table.

Laughter and cheerful conversations filled the air, mingling with the traditional papel picado banners that hung gracefully, creating a lively atmosphere and reminiscent of confetti floating through the breeze. Her parents left first to place the tamales they’d made on the table.

Her grandma smiled at her then and said, “Mija, I am going to say hi to your Tia Carmen.”

Joy pulsed through the room, fueled by the birthday celebration for Jenny. Laughter cascaded around the tables as family and friends teased each other, danced, and ate.

Daisy nodded, acknowledging her grandmother with a wave before making her way toward her older brother, Marcos.

As a landscape architect, Marcos was often too busy to come to extended family gatherings. Approaching him, Daisy couldn't help but tease, 'Well, look who finally showed up. To what do we owe this small pleasure?'"

Marco stood at 5'8" with a build that was broad and sturdy, his slightly long hair pulled back into a ponytail. He exuded a rugged charm as he winked at her and said, "You act like we don’t see each other on a weekly basis.” Then, pointing around the room, he added, “I heard Mari Ortega would be here tonight."

Daisy rolled her eyes at her brother's perpetual crush. At thirty years old, he had held onto his infatuation with Mari since eighth grade. "You really need to give up on that."

Marcos shook his head and then distracted from what he had been going to say, gestured toward the door, his gaze fixed intently. "Never. Um, who is that intense man heading towards us?"

Daisy frowned, hiding her surprise as she saw Michael and Anthony make their way over to them.

Anthony pushed Michael out of the way and rushed towards Daisy saying, “Hey! Jenny invited me and for some reason Michael tagged along. Our parents are out of town, and he worries!”

Daisy calmed the alarm bells ringing in her mind and greeted them warmly, "It's great to see you... both. This is my brother, Marcos."

They exchanged handshakes and engaged in light conversation until Marcos excused himself, saying, "Excuse me, but I need to go. I see someone I need to say hello to." Anthony chuckled and added, "You two are on your own. I want to say hi to Jenny.
